Bio

Emerge is a series started by Survivor to introduce emerging young worship leaders and bands who we recognise God is raising up.

Al Gordon became a Christian when he was 18 while listening to the first Soul Survivor Live album. A friend of his who was a Christian gave him a copy of the album and Al who had a real love for music listened to it in his room. He didn’t know that God was real and as he listened to the album God started to open his eyes and work in him. He knew something different was happening to him and it was like the heavens opened. He listened to the song ‘I Will Offer Up My Life’ which he kept playing over and over again. From that point on Al has been passionate about worship and the local church.

On becoming a Christian Al joined Holy Trinity Brompton where he did the Alpha course and joined a local home group. One day the worship leader at the home group was ill so they asked Al if he would lead, he had done this a lot in his room playing songs and ideas, but had never led in front on anyone else. Al gradually got involved in leading at the youth group at Holy Trinity Brompton and then went to University in Edinburgh where he led worship at his local church there.

Al graduated from the University of Edinburgh and came back to Holy Trinity Brompton in 2000 where he joined the staff as a Worship Intern. He was later employed as Assistant Worship Leader and is now the Associate Worship Director for the church.

Al is passionate about seeing the local church become a vital, vibrant expression of Jesus. Alongside Tim Hughes, Al leads Worship Central, a ministry offering Global training conferences, UK retreats and online resources. Started in May 2006 Worship Central is a school of worship with a vision to encounter God, empower and equip the church. Their last event was held in Westminster’s Central Hall on the 15th March where 2000 worshippers attended. Al hosts the bimonthly podcast with Tim which has hit number 1 on the iTunes podcast charts, under the religion & spirituality section. He also regularly writes a blog on www.worshipcentral.org .

In March, the Emerge series released ‘Future Sound’ the first album from Al Gordon. Seven songs filled with anthems of praise and intimate worship. This album is the soundtrack of Worship Central, resourcing churches with fresh new songs of worship.

“Future Sound is a collection of songs that are about the future” says Al. “Songs that are about Jesus coming back. Worship is the future sound and as we look forward to Christ’s return our worship should reflect and echo that in the now.”

Al grew up listening to rock music but loves a variety of styles from Gospel to Folk to Rock to R&B. His musical influences include Sigur Ros, Muse, Keane, U2, Coldplay amongst many others. Some of his favourite albums include the Cutting Edge series from Delirious? and anything from Johnny Cash. His favourite book is Whatever Happened To Worship by A.W. Tozer.

Al is married to Olivia and they are parents to newly born son Kester.
